Pattaya – Mr. Abhisit was at Royal Cliff hotel, to head a Democrat post-election assembly where newly-elected Democrat MPs will acknowledge parliamentary etiquettes and be introduced to party executives.

The Democrat Party , commanding 163 seats in the House of Representatives and becoming the only party in the opposition bloc, will unveil its shadow cabinet line-up after the new Cabinet list under the premiership of Samak Sundaravej is officially announced, he said, indicating that a country with a good government and a strong opposition will brace through problems in a careful and effective manner.

Abhisit added that a close scrutiny by the opposition’s shadow cabinet would be an addition to the already-existed checking through parliamentary interpellations, motions and various committees in the lower house of Parliament.

“This will be beneficial to the people. It also gives the people a chance to other alternatives in solving a problem,” said the Democrat leader.

“It’s a constructive process and our shadow cabinet will be designed in such a way that we will monitor every Cabinet member on an individual basis.”

Abhisit will be the leader of the shadow cabinet which, he said, can be subject to a reshuffle in the future.

Asked if the shadow cabinet will give the Samak government some time in running the country, the Democrat leader replied, “The Democrat Paty will allow some time for certain policies. However there is one issue which time will never be allowed–corruption.”
