Crystal Meth (ya-ice) is a form of speed and its mood altering effects are long lasting, generally up to twelve hours. It is very popular with females as it can cause extremely rapid weight loss. However, the body builds up a tolerance and after around six weeks, the weight loss slows down and the weight that was lost is regained once the methamphetamine is stopped. It is for these reasons and the addictiveness that the once prescribed drug is no longer used in a weight loss program.

Methamphetamine is the chemical n-mthyl-l-phenyl-propan-2-amine. It is known simply as Meth, ice, Tina or glass amongst many other street names. Crystal Meth refers to its crystalline appearance and users experience an intense rush or a powerful feeling of euphoria immediately after ingesting any form of Crystal Meth. Smoking Crystal Meth is the most used method, but it can be snorted, taken orally, injected intravenously, or inserted into the anus.

Crystal Meth can be manufactured anywhere though usually in home based labs and any one can find a recipe for it on the internet.  Manufacturing the drug does not take any talent and so even the dumbest person can produce this life threatening drug. Because this drug is so easy to produce, no government in the world can control its manufacture and sale. Crystal Meth comes in different forms, being sold on the streets as a colorless solid and also in powder form which is usually less pure.

When sold in the form of a crumbly brownish colored rock, it is known as ‘peanut butter crank’. Often, Crystal Meth is not very pure and has other substances added such as addictive drugs in order to enhance or dilute its properties. While some people show signs of alertness, increased focus, others will display signs of obsessive behavior and repetitive actions.  The latter usually points to an addiction.

Many users suffer from fatigue, loss of appetite and failure to sleep which attributes the decline in their health. When a regular user of Meth has missed out on a dose, they will become anxious and crave for the drug. If he or she stops using it, they will experience withdrawal symptoms and will spend more time sleeping.

Side effects associated with Crystal Meth include, high blood pressure and heart rate, twitching, repetitive behaviors, diarrhea, nausea, insomnia, irritability, panic attacks and incessant talking, paranoia, Meth mouth (teeth decay and fall out), cardiac arrest and brain damage.

The production of Crystal Meth is highly dangerous because of its toxicity and explosive nature. People very often take the drug in the form of colored pills, which also contains caffeine.  This is then called Yaba which is Thai for ‘crazy medicine’. Crystal Meth is used mostly for recreational purposes.
