Sriracha, the 9th of June 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 3:00pm, the Piew Yiang Thai Foundation (Animal Rescue) was notified, by a concerned monk, that a fairly large crocodile (approximately 2m) had been seen swimming in the small pond adjacent to the Wat Nong Yaibu temple grounds in Sriracha. Animal rescue officers went to the scene to investigate and trap the reptile.

After observing the pond for nearly an hour officers spotted the creature swimming in the water. A low dose tranquiliser dart was fired at the reptile to enable rescuers to safety transport it to a professional handler. It is expected that the crocodile will now be released into a more remote habitat or given to the local crocodile park.

The monk who found the uninvited swimmer stated that he had initially discovered the crocodile after a local dog had been barking incessantly at the pond at approximately 1:00am on Wednesday morning. After investigating the cause of the dogs distress, find the rather large reptile, he explained that he returned to the temple before informing the proper authorities in the morning.
