Indian Wells, the 22nd of March 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: Ljubicic, currently ranked 26th of the men’s tennis tour, was runner-up at the Paris and Miami Masters tournaments in 2005 and 2006 respectively when he held his highest career ranking of 3rd. Responsible for knocking out the formidable Spaniard and world number 3 Rafael Nadal as well as world number 2 Novak Djokovic, Ljubicic went on to win the final against American Roddick, 7-6 (7/3), 7-6 (7/5).

Having played some of the best tennis of his career at the tournament, Ljubicic did not let his fans down in the final, putting on a serving master-class with an impressive 20 aces. Ljubicic last ace gave him the win in a tie-break, but not before a double fault and two match point revivals by Roddick.

Roddick, somewhat of a serving specialist himself, hitting 11 aces in the final, stated about Ljubicic’s game; “He served great. The last two days was an exhibition in how to go on serving big points. He had complete control over all four spots.”

The match was remarkably even, considering the odds that were stacked against Ljubicic, both players rescued themselves from break points in the first set before the Croat went on to take charge in the tiebreak.

The Indian Wells tournament is Ljubicic’s 10th career title and first Masters 1000 win. Prior to the tournament Ljubicic was ranked as the world number 26 player, that ranking will now rise into the top 15, a position he has not been in since January of 2008.
