Na Jomtien, 18 August, at 01.00 am, police sub- lieutenant Sangwan Panthasi, Najomtien deputy police protector, was notified a cow thief had been arrested and detained by the farmer who resides at house No. 7, opposite to the  Ambassador hotel, Jomtien. The police team went to investigate. At the scene police saw Mr. Poor,[25] a Cambodian man and his old truck, Nissan No. 5529 being held by the farmer and his family.Mr. Tawai Tunkun,[56],the house and the cows’ owner and his family were gathered around a cow cage. The back of the truck had been converted – a high steel bar had been utilised to build a cage to keep the cattle and many ropes were in the cage – police kept them as evidence.

Mr. Tawai said that his herd numbered around 150 cows and that he kept them in a 50 Rai field. He said that lately he had lost more then 10 cows, worth several hundred thousand baht but had never managed to catch the thief. A week before he found another cow missing ( the thief left one leg of it behind) and he was so angry and upset that he decided to buy a few guard dogs to protect his herd and scare the thieves off.

On the day the incident occurred he saw the old truck with the cage behind and he thought it might be the bandit’s vehicle who had been stealing his cattle so he and his relatives kept a watch on the individual as he was driving his truck through the streets many times. Without warning, the driver stopped the truck, got out of it, walked to the cattle cage and started to round up the cows into his truck as if they belonged to him. Mr. Tawai said he and his relatives then rushed to stop the man and managed to apprehend him and then called the police.

Mr. Poor said he did not have any intention to steal their cows. He claimed he was seeing his friends around the area. However, the police presumed that the man was a staff member of a slaughterhouse and the owner might have ordered him to steal cattle from the villagers. They also believed that this operation must be the work of a gang taking cows to order on instructions from the owner.

Police officers had seized all the evidence and took Mr. Poor to the station for further investigation.
