City Planning To Curb Rogue Pattaya Taxicabs
A conference was held at Pattaya City Hall to address the growing problem of unlicensed taxicabs operating in Pattaya. The rogue taxis, which mostly have black license plates, frequently ignore traffic laws and often block traffic to pick up and drop off passengers. Drivers also park illegally on the street while waiting for fares.PATTAYA – December 26, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; Pattaya Deputy Mayor Mr. Ronnakit Ekasing presided over a meeting to discuss transportation issues in Pattaya. Representatives from various related sectors participated in the meeting.
There have been increasing complaints from local residents and tourists about unregistered taxicabs in Pattaya. The taxicabs have black license plates, which means that they are not legally registered with Pattaya city. Registered taxicabs have yellow license plates.
The outlaw taxicabs frequently ignore traffic laws and regulations, and obstruct traffic by picking up or dropping off passengers at any spot, even if it ties up vehicles behind them. The drivers also cause problems by parking anywhere they want while they are between fares.
Because the rogue taxicabs are not registered, Pattaya city officials have no way to regulate them, and are unable to track them or take corrective action.
So the meeting was held at City Hall for people to join together to find the solution. After getting to know the issues, the city has offered to be the medium to coordinate the proposed suggestions of all relevant sectors to accelerate the process of resolving the problem urgently.
