Chonburi Gold Shop Owner’s Son Cut Up 1.3 Million THB

The rumours about the torn 1.3 million THB bank notes found in a trash bin proved to be real. Some people say the cash was part of the loot from the burglary at Mr. Supot’s transport ministry's secretary residence or money from drug lords.

Chonburi, February 3, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; Mr. Paitoon Vittayarampra, the owner of an electric appliances shop named “Sapmongkol”, located in Banbueng, Chonburi, reported to the police that he had found torn 1,000 THB bank notes in the bin in front of his shop. Upon inspection the police found that each 1,000 THB bank notes was torn into 10 pieces. The total weight of the “paper” was about 1.3 kilograms. Omsin Bank certified that the torn bank notes were authentic and said they originated from a bank.

A bank clerk said, the torn bank notes could be a result of quarrel between siblings over a will.That’s why they were torn into pieces. But whoever did it they realized it is against the law to destroy banknotes (legal tender). So they threw them in a bin.

A reporter said, that the rumours were flying since the discovery of the torn banknotes. People were talking, texting and facebooking saying that the banknotes could have been from Mr Supot Saplom Ministry of Transport permanent secretary’s house burglary.

Pol.Col.Theerapol Jindaluang, Chonburi police station said, the villagers had found the torn bank notes a bin near Banklongkew market.

“People say these bank notes were from Supot Transport Ministry Permanent Secretary house break-in. I don’t think so. No proof”, says Pol.Col.Theerapol Jindaluan.

Chonburi, February 6, 2012 Pol.Lt.Gen. Panya Mamen, the Commissioner of Police District 2 and Pol.Maj.Gen. Jamnong Rattanakul the Commander of Chonburi police station and staff from the Security Department of the Bank of Thailand, said, that the torn 1,000 THB bank notes found in the bin in weighed 1.3 kilogram.

In the bin the police also found bank note plastic bands, properrty of 9924014/ Kasikorn bank.

February 6 2012, Mr. Vorapong Rojsattarat alias “Yoo”, 60 years old, address: 191/12 Klongkew, Banbueng, Chonburi a well known owner of the biggest gold store in Huakoonjae area named “Rungcharern” brought, his son 30 years old Mr.Vorrapan Rojsattarat to meet Pol.Mej.Col. Jamnong Ratanakul who admitted that he was the real owner of the money.

The son confessed that he had cut all the bank notes with a scissor,burnt some of them and then dumped them in the bin 30 meters from his house. He said he had done it because he was upset with his father Mr.Vorrapong who had spent so much money to support his other son and daughter-in-law to open a new gold shop in Pattaya. The distressed son saved money for two years, alltogether a million THB. He was a afraid that his father would found out so he cut all the money into pieces.

Mr. Vorrapong Rojsattarat, the father admitted, that it was his fault. He had tried to help the other son to open a new store with a large investement. Vorrapan, the son said, that he felt hurt. The disgruntled son had been a bank clerk earlier and knew that the cut banknotes could be put together with adhesive tape and be valid as legal tender again.Mr Vorrapan told the police that he would not do it again.
