Car Bursts Into Flames On Sukhumvit Road

A Chief Petty Officer who was driving his car with a flat rear tyre was lucky to escape with his life after it burst into flames.

SATTAHIP – December 24,2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 1.30 a.m., Pol.Capt. Saijai Khamjulla (Inquiry official of Sattahip police station) was notified that there was a car fire on the Sukhumvit road, km 179, on route kilometer 10 – Sattahip, opposite to Navy House 5 village, Moo 2, Tambon Sattahip, Amphur Sattahip, Chon Buri province, so he rushed to inspect the scene together with firemen and officers of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Sattahip Municipality.

At the scene the officers found a bronze Toyota Corolla car license no. Khor Kor – 3441 Chon Buri which was engulfed in flames. The driver was identified as CPO1 Wallop Wiriyakit, aged 54, who belongs to the Mahidol Adulyadej Naval Dockyard. He was unharmed and was lucky to escape with his life. It took the fire brigade around an hour to bring the fire under control.

 

Upon questioning an eyewitness he said that the car was heading towards Sattahip market when the left rear tire exploded but the driver kept going until the wheel drum started sparking on the road. After a short distance the wheel caught fire which quickly engulfed the car.

CPO1 Wallop Wiriyakit the driver said that he was driving back home from work when he heard his rear tyre exploded but because it was very late he decided to carry on driving and would change it when he got home. After a short distance from home the rear tyre caught fire and then quickly spread to the rest of the car destroying it. Luckily the fire was put out before it reached the LPG tank which could of exploded.
