Bystander Shot In Rayong “Ya-Ice” Car Chase

Rayong police in hot pursuit shoots at drug dealer, but misses and hits an innocent optical shop clerk.

Rayong, February 16, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; Pol. Lt. Col. Kritpong Jairakrean and Rayong police team inspected a suspicious Honda Civic, bronze color, license number KOR KHOR 7019 Trad, parked with the engine running on Sukhumvit road.

The police asked for driving license. The driver stepped on the gas and disappeared. The police in hot pursuit followed the Honda to Toong Chaikratai road in front of Sri Krung optical store.

The police decided to shoot and aimed for the wheels of the suspect’s Honda sedan but the bullet missed and hit Ms. Nid, employee of Sri Krung optical store. The gunshot victim was injured at the back and was rushed to Rayong hospital.

The Honda Civic escaped to Star department store but was stopped by a police road blockade.The police arrested Mr. Kamol aka “Id Duangto” age 28, the driver and Mr. Pongpat or “Ball” Pattanachaianan age 24.

Inside the car the police found two match boxes containing approximately 50 g meth and two mobile phones. No guns or other weapons.

Upon investigation Mr. Kamol or “Id” the driver, said that he travelled from Trad province and stayed at the Sabaidee Resort in Klang, Rayong province and picked up Mr. Pongpat. Mr. “Id” said he didn’t know that Mr. Pongpat was carrying drugs.

Mr. Pongpat, ” Ball” confessed that he had received the ya-ice from Chonburi. The Instructions were from a prisoner in Chonburi prison who had ordered him to send the drugs to a customer in Rayong.

The police detained both of the suspects to be further investigated and prosecuted according to the law to the Thai law.
