The three men had also apparently attacked the foreign house owner. The house owner had attempted to fight back and when the thieves ran outside and tried to escape on their motorbile, chased after them in a pickup truck, running over and killing one of the thieves, but the other two managed to escape. The incident took place on the road to Mabprachan Reservoir, off Sukhumvit.

The police team rushed to the crime scene to find at the single house, located on one rai area of land, the owner of the house, Mr. John Jones (48), British, with a bad head injury after being stuck with an axe and his left wrist tendon severed. His Thai wife, Mrs. Nikorn Jones (25) and Mrs. Pantip Pooliangpa(35), her sister, were standing near his pickup truck a bronze, Toyota four wheel drive (no. 6198, Chonburi) waiting for the police.

There was a dead body of a man lying alongside the truck aged between 20-25. The police searched the body of the man, but found no evidence to identify him.

Questioning Mrs. Nikorn, who is 8 months pregnant, the police were told that, on the morning of the incident, her husband and her sister had taken her to hospital. When they arrived home later, Mr. John parked the car, and while she was waiting in the car, Mr. John and her sister walked into the house, and opened the door to find two men using an axe to try and open their safety box. When the thieves turned around to see Mr. John and her sister, they ran at Mr, John and struck him on the head with an axe and also severed his wrist tendon.

Mrs. Pantip, the sister tried to help, but they then turned on her, twisted her hair and beat her until she fell down. They also threatened to come back and kill them all them if they reported that matter to the police.

They then beat a hasty retreat, but before they left, they grabbed Mr. John’s black bag, which contained 45 thousand Baht, and ran to their motorbike, which was waiting outside being ridden by another man.

Mr. John then rushed to his truck, with his wife still sitting in the passenger seat, and gave chase. Mr. John drove fast and managed to run into the motorbike, bouncing the third man, who was sitting on the back seat, off onto the road, where the truck ran over him, killing him on the spot. However, the other two men managed to escape.

Police later searched the house to find that the thieves had apparently climbed the two-meter high fence into the garden. They had then broken in via the back door and had gone in the bedroom to attempt their robbery. The police found many pieces of equipment abandoned by the thieves lying around on the floor, such as an electric drill, screw driver etc. Police took them as evidence.

The police presume that the suspects were construction workers who were familiar with the family’s activities. Police will search for the details of the dead man and will further investigate the other two escapees.
