Bangkok, the 4th of December 2008 [TNA]: Mr. Suchart conceded he was concerned with the business sector since loans are being injected by financial institutionsinto the system in smaller amounts.

The minister said that bankers often preferred to lend in the repurchase market and deposit with the central bank.

To address the liquidity shortage in the system, he wanted the central bank’s Financial Institution Policy Committee to find ways to encourage lending in the system.

Regarding a proposed measure to cut corporate taxes from 30 per cent, he said it is just a move to seek opinions from the public.

He saw no need to implement the measure urgently and instead wanted to boost the incomes of farmers and local people, and recovery of retail entrepreneur business so that they could pay taxes in a larger amount.

Mr. Suchart said the Fiscal Policy Office is studying the tax structure.

Referring to news reports that there might be an increase in the mid-year budget deficit from Bt100 billion,

he said it is in a process of seeking opinions from people in all walks of life. (TNA)
