At the scene, police found a badly damaged bicycle lying in the road. The young accident victim had apparently been taken to Banglamung Hospital by the van which had caused the accident. Police, accordingly, went to the hospital to investigate. Unfortunately, however, the boy had died from his injuries.

The dead boy (10) Sanya Pinkaew, was studying in Wat Suthawas school, Year 5. He had been wearing a school uniform and his body was covered with wounds. The doctor said he died from internal bleeding.

Police then questioned Mr. Sanong Sirimil(46), a police volunteer, from 5 Pong Sub-district, the van driver who explained that he had been driving the White Toyota van (No. 4936) from Huayyai Sub-district office heading back to Banglamung police station when the accident happened. At the location of the incident, he said he had seen the victim riding his bicycle towards his van, but the boy then accidentally changed lanes into his path. He could not stop the van in time and the van ran into the boy. However, the boy, after the impact, had still been sufficiently coherent to tell him how to contact his family.

Mr. Sanong said he was deeply sorry for the boy’s death, felt great sympathy for the boy’s family and will be responsible for anything the family request.

The victim’s mother, Mrs. Nit Pinkaew,(43), was crying her heart out and complained that if the doctor had attended to him sooner, her son would have survived because her son had still been able to communicate with the van driver and even when they arrived at the hospital, he still could give his mother’s contact number.
