CHONBURI – Febuary 11,2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; A report of a thief assaulting a motorbike-for-hire driver and stealing his motorbike was received by Pol. Capt. Somphong Ativongthada, officer on duty, Nong Kharm police station in Sriracha. A bystander who witnessed the event notified the police.

The police captain coordinated with the radio center of Nong Kharm police station to alert officers on the road to watch for the thief. He then went to inspect the scene. The incident occurred at the Soi Nong Khor community, Soi 3 Moo 9 Tambon Nong Kharm, Amphur Sriracha.

Waiting for police was the victim, identified as Mr. Phraison Suriyaprasit, age 37, from Nong Kharm. He was wearing the green waistcoat of the driver of a motorbike-for-hire, with the hiring number 128. He worked at the Nakorn Laem Chabang parking-for-hire stand at the news center of Udom bay.

Mr. Phraison had been injured after being bashed by a stick of hard wood on his neck and left arm. He also had bruises on his body from being assaulted by his passenger who had stolen his motorbike.

The dark-skinned thief appeared to be over age 30, approximately 160 cm tall, wearing jeans, a pink T-shirt and sunglasses. The stolen motorbike was an orange Honda Clic, license number JOR BOR JOR-332 Chonburi.

Officers found tire skids on the road, and scrapes on the wall made by the stolen motorbike. The thief had momentarily lost his balance while driving away, and had scraped against the wall while being chased by the driver. About 10 meters away on the ground, police found the wooden stick about 2 feet long.

Mr. Phraison told police that a man had hired him to go to the Nong Khor temple. So they drove along the bypass route, and crossed the bride of Suanseua to the road going to the Suanseua-Nong Khor temple. When they arrived at the temple, Mr. Phraison parked his motorbike to let the man get off. But the man then said his friend was not there.

The man then told Mr. Phraison to take him into the Soi, because his friend’s house is there. So Mr. Phraison drove through many Sois, until they arrived at a deserted Soi where there were no people. The man then told him to park the motorbike, and got off and acted as if he was going to pay the fare.

But suddenly the man took out a big stick of wood that he had with him, and used it to hit Mr. Phaison in the neck twice and on his arm and body. The stick attack caused Mr. Phraison and the motorbike to fall down. The thief then tried to take his motorbike to drive away and escape. But Mr. Phraison grabbed the same stick, and started whacking the fleeing thief, causing his motorbike to scrape against the wall as he was escaping.

But the thief was still able to drive away, as Mr. Phraison tried to run after him but could not capture him. However, the police will follow up to track down the thief, based on the description of his appearance, to punish him as soon as possible.
