BANGKOK – August 24, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]: at 7 p.m., Pol. Maj. Gen. Bawornpop Suntornreka, tourist detective police inspector, received a report of a tour bus driver who drove away with tourists’ property while they were sightseeing at a Bangkok attraction.

The bus driver, identified as Mr. Thanash Kuantalek, had driven the tour bus away containing the bags of 24 Chinese tourists while they were visiting the Snakes Garden in Lardkrabang.

Mr. Chaiyos Fa-arun, a tourist guide of Sangrassamee transport company, reported the coach bus registration number 30-0792, Nakorn Rajasima.

After the theft report, Pol. Maj. Gen. Adit Ngamsuksri, tourist police commander, broadcasted an alert through the radio frequency of the tourist police to help catch the runaway bus driver.

Later at 10 p.m., officers found the abandoned bus at a side area near Bangna-Trad Km 16. The driver was not found, and police assume he had escaped.

The police transported the bus back to the Phayathai Hotel, where the Chinese tourists were staying, to check the bus for missing property.

The tour guide Mr. Chaiyos told police that in the evening, he brought the tourists from Pattaya to visit the Snake Garden in Bangkok.

Then the bus driver Mr.Thanas called to say that he was going to inflate the tires. After the tourists had finished watching the performance, Mr. Chaiyos called the driver, but he could not be contacted.

After waiting a long time, Mr. Chaiyos thought the driver had been gone too long, so he called the Pattaya tourist police to find the driver.

Later the police had the Chinese tour group inspect the returned bus to check for any missing property. They reported that 10,000 baht and a Canon camera were missing. Police are investigating to track down the driver.
