PATTAYA – February 16, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; At 3:15 a.m., a report by bystanders that a white man was using a rock to bash a parked police pickup truck near Beach Road was received by Pol. Maj. Col. Kowit Sawatmongkol, crime suppression inspector of Pattaya police station.

The official police pick-up truck belonged to the Pattaya police station, and was parked in front of Central Festival Pattaya center, only 20 meters away from the police station. After assaulting the truck, the foreigner escaped into the sea off Pattaya Beach, as the police rushed to find him.

At the crime scene, police discovered their damaged pickup with an official sticker, “Pattaya Police Station, 601, Traffic Department.” The vandalized truck was an Isuzu Dmax, Thor Phor 5733, Bangkok.

The pickup truck had been bashed by the big rock on its side mirror and the driver’s side door and window, which had broken into pieces. The truck’s outside radio antenna was also bent in half. Police found a big rock dropped on the ground, which they kept for evidence.

The suspect was described as a tall white male, wearing black shorts and a white T-shirt. After bashing the police truck, the man ran to the sea at Pattaya beach, to swim like he was feeling free.

But after a short while, the man returned to land to surrender himself to the police, and acted like nothing had happened. When the police questioned him, he did not say anything and just kept looking down, which made the police feel confused.

Before the incident occurred, the man had earlier been to the police station to visit Ms. Dawan Phawaharn, 25 years old, an inmate charged with meth possession. The officer of the shift had allowed the suspect see her for 2 minutes. Then the suspect walked out of the police station. Shortly after, the police got the report of someone assaulting the police truck.

The police still did not know the reason for the silent white man’s rage. They presumed he was very stressed from something, and he released his stress on the police vehicle. However the police detained him at the police station to prosecute, and will investigate and question him further.
