At 05.00 am on November 8 2008 Pattaya police Inspector Pol. Maj. Wittaya Yeunyong was notified by Miss Supannikar Yooyeud (33), a worker at a Seven Eleven store at Pratumnak, that a seriously injured American man had ran into the store asking for help. Police rushed to the scene with a rescue team.

On arriving at the store police found Mr. Eric Monahan (24), an American, covered with wounds to his head and all over his body. Officials rushed him to the Pattaya Memorial Hospital.

According to Miss Supanikah the victim said he was attacked by a group of teenagers while drinking at ” Hard Sai Tong” (Golden Sand Beach)

On questioning Mr. Monahan at the hospital he explained that he was drinking at Hard Sai Tong when a group of ten Thai teenagers arrived and started to drink next to him. He said he thought one of them was his friend or someone he had met before so he went over to say hello.

A man in the group became angry and pulled out a sword, about one meter long, and began attacking him. Mr. Minahan tried to run away but his attacker managed to hack him several times. Luckily he managed to run into the Seven Eleven nearby, while the teen group quickly rode away on their bikes.

Subsequently, Police were notified that a large group of young teenagers were gathering together at the crime scene. Officers rushed there but the young gang jumped on their bikes and sped away. The report has been registered and the police hope to find the gang soon.
