Agents That Tricked Thai Women Into Prostitution Finally Arrested

Police officers of the AHTD (Anti Human Trafficking Dep.) held a press conference regarding the arrest of an agent who reportedly tricked Thai women into prostitution overseas.

BANGKOK – June 27, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; At the headquarters of the AHTD, Police Maj. General Chawalitsangpuet, Commandant of the AHTD together with various other police colonels held a press conference regarding the arrest of 56 year-old Mr Michael or Mr. Tan Hong Huad, a Singapore national who was involved in human trafficking. He was suspected of tricking more than 5 Thai women into prostitution. He was reported to have been arrested at a village in Samutprakarn province.

Police Colonel Chaowalit said that the search for Mr. Michael started after a Thai Woman reported that a Singaporean tricked her to work overseas on January 5, 2013. The 36 year-old Thai woman t who reported Mr. Michael told the police that Mr. Michael tricked her to work at a massage parlor in Johannesburg, South Africa. But it turned out that the massage parlor owners in South Africa forced her into prostitution. She told the police that she was able to escape from South Africa to Thailand, which lead to her report.

Police Major General Chawalit also said that on April 29, 2013 the 36 year-old Thai woman went to report to investigation officers that she was tricked into prostitution. After receiving the report, the investigation officers gathered information and evidence. After gathering sufficient evidence an arrest warrant was issued, which eventually led to the arrest of Mr. Michael.

Mr. Michael denied all accusations, he claimed that he had lived in Thailand for over 5 years now. As for the process of taking of the Thai woman to South Africa, he claimed that he was not involved in bringing the woman to South Africa.

The rest of the human trafficking gang or group are now being tracked down by investigation officers of the AHTD and the Royal Thai Police.
