Pattaya, the 25th of May 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 2:00pm on Tuesday, Thappraya Radio Command Center was notified that a suspicious device had been found left on the roadside in Soi Chaiyapruk 2, Jomtien. A team of police along with Mr. Sanit Boonmachai (Pattaya Congress Member) proceeded to the scene to investigate further. Initial speculation was that the device may have been a bomb, planted by radicals involved with the continued political struggles afflicting the nation. Although the location of the device was of no governmental or political significance and was not in an area were any significant damage could occur.

At the scene, local residents have begun to gather around the area to get a glimpse of the device, until officers immediately setup a containment barrier to protect them from any potential explosions. Investigations of the suspicious device revealed 4 small cone-shaped items interconnected with electrical wiring and covered in electricians tape. Officers immediately decided to call the Naval Explosive Ordinance Department before placing a car tyre over the device to somewhat mitigate any potential explosion.

Master Chief Petty Officer Ritthiphorn Khieworn (Naval Explosive Ordinance Department) arrived at the scene before carefully inspecting the suspicious device. After a short investigation, officers confirmed to the press that the device was in fact 4 small ‘rainbow fireworks’ cunningly strung together with electricians tape and wiring to give the appearance of a bomb. Officers stated that it was probably the doings of a local youth gang or group of adolescent teenagers wishing to stir up local residents over the ongoing political crisis in the nation.
