2 Students Snatch Tourist’s Handbag

Pattaya police quickly chased after 2 students that snatched a tourist’s handbag after witnessing the incident. The police chased after them and pulled the passenger off by grabbing him by his shirt collar and the rider was quickly arrested in a house where he was hiding.

PATTAYA – December 26, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 9.00 p.m. Pol. Capt. Winai Sanitphan (Deputy Inspector of Pattaya city police station, Chonburi province) was notified from the patrol police officer that he had detained 1 snatcher in front of Jae Jook restaurant at the beginning of Soi 2/2 north Pattaya road, opposite to Pattaya City Hall, Moo 6 Tambon Na Kluea, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province, so he rushed to inspect at scene together with the police team.

At the incident the police found 1 patrol police officer had detained one of the thieves a Mr. Jod (alias), aged 15, with the stolen handbag with cash, 1 iPhone mobile phone, ATM cards and important documents inside which there were Mrs. Tatiana Zotova, aged 28 and her boyfriend (both of them were the Russian tourists) identified Mr. Jod and confirmed to police that he was one of the thieves. The police team then went to arrest Mr. Aey (alias), aged 17 as he was hiding himself in a house in Soi 25, Pattaya-Na Kluea road. Also the police seized a black Honda Wave-I motorbike, license number NGOR KHOR LOR-700 Chonburi that was used in the robbery.

From investigating the 2 Russian victims, the police were told that while they were walking back to their hotel they were in front of Jae Jook restaurant when Mr. Aey came up from behind on a motorbike and Mr. Jod (the passenger) yanked the handbag off Mrs. Tatiana but at the time a police patrol was riding and saw the incident so he chased after the 2 snatchers and grabbed one by the collar until he fell from the motorbike before going to arrest Mr. Aey at his house.

Both of the 2 snatchers confessed that they were studying at a school in Pattaya city and they had to snatch tourists’ property because they wanted to get money to go travelling and this was the first time they had done it. However, initially, the police charged them with the allegation of robbery. They were then detained and sent to the investigation officer to be prosecuted further according to the Thai law.
