Sattahip, 1 April 2011 [Pattaya Daily News]: At 8 a.m., Police Lieutenant, Bumrung Rakbamrungsakul, Inspecting Officer of Plutaluang Police Department (Sattahip, Chonburi) was informed by Captain Prateep Chatasing, the Chief Security Guard of Queen Sirikit Navy Hospital, that an elderly patient had caught a suspect snatching his golden chain. The police rushed to the scene.

The suspect was Ms. Prmuan Thampala, aged 47 (resides at 6/14, Moo.2, Samnakton, Banchang, Rayong). She was a patient suffering from a depression disorder. She had snatched a 3-Baht golden chain from another depression patient, Mr. Sa-ngiam Suksawang, aged 75 (resides at 54 Moo.3, Banna, Klaeng, Rayong).
The victim told the police that he went to see the doctor this morning for his depression disorder. He waited in the queue, sitting next to the suspect. When he was going to the male restroom, the suspect followed him and snatched the golden chain from him. The chain was torn into two pieces. As the reaction, he punched the suspect in the face and called out for help. Mr. Supakrit, a witness in the male restroom, helped catching the suspect.

The suspect confessed that she needed money to pay for her treatment. She has been sick for many years. Now she does not have enough money to pay for the treatment. The suspect only had 15 Baht in her pocket at the time of interrogation. While she was waiting in line, she saw the victim’s big golden chain and she became greedy. She thought that the victim was too old and weak that he might not be able to fight back. However, as it turned out, the victim punched her in the face.

The police were not convinced by the suspect’s story. They believed that the suspect may have committed the crime before because the suspect’s appearance was similar to the description of the thief in Banchang area and Plutaluang market. The police will contact past victims, whose necklaces were also stolen, to identify the suspect.
