Young Thai Fatally Shot During Drunken Bravado

A 22-year-old man was shot in the head 4 times while walking toward a 21-year-old gunman who had just fired 2 warning shots at him. Their dispute began when the victim accidentally stepped on the gunman’s foot while dancing at a Bang Saray festival.

SATTAHIP – April 22, 2013, at 12:15 a.m., a report of a teenager using a gun to fatally shoot a victim was received by Pol. Lt. Sinsamut Boonthassana, investigation police on duty, Sattahip police station.

The incident occurred in front of Siriporn beauty shop, address 120/74 Moo 8 Tambon Bang Sarey, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province.

He went to inspect the scene with Pol. Col. Chonnaphat Nawalak, Superintendent, Sattahip police station, Pol. Col. Prakorb Saengphring, Deputy Superintendent, Pol. Lt. Col. Niphon Pomsanarm, Deputy Superintendent, Pol. Lt. Col. Thapanat Chayarnphat, Inspector, detective police team and the rescue officers of Sawangrojjanatharmmasatharn Sattahip foundation.

At the scene, officers found groups of many teenagers were standing around to see the corpse. There were bottles of liquor and soda dispersed all over the ground.

The victim was identified as Mr. Chatchai or Tong Nukhunthod, age 22, address 82/10 Moo 1 Tambon Bang Sarey, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province.

He was lying down with his face turned up on a pile of blood. He had been shot in the head a total of 4 times with a .38 caliber gun. There were wounds in his left forehead, the middle of his head, his right cheek and right ear. After the gunman shot the victim, he drove his pickup truck to Sukhumvit road in the direction of Pattaya.

Police questioned the victim’s girlfriend, Ms. Dao Khonphudsa, age 17. She said that before incident occurred, her boyfriend Mr. Chatchai and his friends had traveled to the Wan Lai Day festival at Bang Saray beach.

They were at a fair with displays of car stereos mounted on vehicles that were blasting music. So Mr. Chatchai was dancing and accidentally treaded on the foot of Mr. Watchara or O Nu-eam, age 21, who lives in the other area of Pattaya.

But the two young men didn’t apologize to each other, and instead got into a quarrel. However, the security officers came to forbid them from fighting. So they separated to go back home.

Mr. Chatchai and his friends went to sit to drink liquor in front of the beauty shop for a while. Then Mr. O drove up in a pickup truck to park, and got off the truck. He then took out a .38 caliber gun and shot it into the air 2 times.

In response, Mr. Chatchai walked to the troublemaker without being afraid of death, to grasp the gun. But he was shot 4 times and died immediately. Then Mr. O got back in his pickup truck and drove away to escape from the incident.

Pol. Col. Chonnaphat Nawalak, Superintendent, Sattahip police station, assumed that the death resulted after the victim and Mr. O were dancing, until they treaded on each other’s feet and got to quarreling. Mr. O, who is a ruffian from another area, got angry. So he followed up to shoot Mr. Chatchai until he died.

The detective police team was sent to track down and arrest Mr. O to prosecute according to the law. The commander expected that the police will be able to arrest the gunman soon.
