Pattaya, 6 November 2010: the quick thinking reaction of a female teenage gang victim led to the swift arrest of a 3-man gang of under-17-year-old teenagers in the middle of the night, today, Nov6.  The victim Miss Namfon Saramsok [28] from Phetchaboon was followed from a 7/11 store by the young motorcycle gang and then held up at gunpoint outside the Amari Orchid Resort, near the Dolphin Roundabout, North Pattaya. Threatened by one of the youths with a BB gun, who proceeded to hit her on the back with it, Miss Namfon quickly surrendered her bag with two mobile phones, after which the gang sped off up Pattaya-Naklua Road.

As soon as the gang escaped, Miss Namfon phoned the police, this was at about 4.30am. Pol.Capt. Somchai Chaikhananukul (Pattaya Police Investigator) was quick to respond and arrived soon after, listened to her account of the robbery and then gave chase. He managed to apprehend them outside the Pullman Pattaya Hotel in Soi Wongamat with a brown Honda Nova motorbike and promptly arrested the three, named under the aliases of Nut [16], Bom [14], and Pek [14]. Upon searching the young suspects, the officer discovered a BB gun hidden in Pek’s waistband, as well as a bag containing 2 mobile phones.

The three were subsequently taken into custody at the police station where Miss Namfon later identified them, pointing out that Pek had been the gun assailant. Master Pek confessed under interrogation that he had indeed pointed a gun at Miss Namfon and had used it to hit her on the back in order to her relieve her of possessions, after which the three had fled. The three suspects confessed that they robbed the victim to convert the phones into money, which they intended to share and also to pay for playing Internet games. The BB gun had apparently been bought from a friend, with the intention of using it for robbery.

Police informed the parents of the three youthful suspects of the incident and that they will be kept in custody pending further judicial procedure.
