Sattahip, 28th May 2010[Pattaya Daily News] At 1pm police Lieutenant Colonel Niphon Pomsanam (Sattahip Police Investigator) was informed that a young man who snatched a 3 baht golden necklace had been shot and severely injured by a police officer at Plamuek Curve (Rayong Curve) in the direction of Pattaya-Sattahip, Moo2, Sattahip. The officer and the Sattahip Police officials went to the scene to investigate.

Mr. Amjarern was transferred to ICU but later died due to severity of his injury.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Damrong Uansungnern (Suppression Chief Inspector) revealed that due to Visakhabusha day, an important Buddhist day, a large turnout of people from the Buddhist ceremony with ladies wearing their valuables caused a concern for security. Undercover officers were placed on the lanes and intersections in and around Sattahip to observe for any occurrences before the incident happened.

At the scene, a young man used a gun to force his victim Mrs. Yaowapha Yonghaiphon [55] a mother-in-law of one of the observing officers Police Sergeant Major Phumphuang to give up her 3 baht gold necklace in front of Soi Shambles, Moo 6, Sattahip.

Accordingly, the team of officers gave chase but the offender rode his motorbike into the officers’ vehicle resulting in Police Senior Sergeant Major Witthaya Sanamchai being injured. The offender then rode his motorbike over a traffic island in an attempt to escape when Police Sergeant Major Phumphuang pulled his gun in order to threaten the offender by shooting twice in the air. The offender did not surrender and used a Thaipradit shotgun to shoot at the officers. Subsequently Police Sergeant Major Phunphuang decided to shoot the suspect in order to wound him which resulted in his unfortunate end.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Damrong Uansungnern added that this offender was a suspect in a necklace snatch at the beginning of May 2010. He was a gang member that gathered around the Naklua and Pattaya area. A sailor insisted that Mr. Amjarern used to commit crimes with his gang in Sattahip. They gathered at 2 points, at Sattahip open market and in front of the Bamrungsit Sueksa School.
