Young Drunk Driver Kills Woman After Bar Hopping Spree

A 27-year-old man who had been drinking at Pattaya pubs veered off the road while driving home and killed a 63-year-old woman. Another man was also injured. He admitted speeding, but claimed he lost control while swerving to avoid a motorbiker.

PATTAYA – August 18, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; At 5:30 a.m., Pol. Maj. Capt. Suthep Petcharee, detective officer of the shift, was notified that a car had veered into a footpath and slammed into people and objects. Two people were injured, one of them fatally.

Police rushed to the scene with the rescue team from Sawang Boriboon Foundation,Pattaya.The accident occurred at Sukhumvit Road, Chonburi inbound, Banrongpoh junction, Moo 3, Banglamung Chonburi

At the scene police found the dead body of Mrs. Tu Hrianki, age 63, living at 22 Moo 5, Banglamung, Chonburi.She was lying on her back, severely injured, with broken bones all over her mangled body. The ground was covered with her blood.Mrs. Tu’s sons and relatives were crying in anguish over the unexpected tragedy.

Also hit by the car was Mr. Banlue Namjaidee, age 54, who lives in Wat Pratum Kongka. He was lying on the footpath with two broken legs and a bloody head. He was still bleeding heavily, so the rescue team gave him first aid before he was taken to Banglamung hospital.

A 1-year-old dog was also injured by the automobile. The dog, named “Jaotia,” (“Shorty”) had a severe wound in her right rear leg. She was taken to the animal hospital near the scene.The car also wrecked some drinking water tanks and a sign about 50 meters away at the offices of Ms. Potchanart Kaewpaluek, the former MP of the Chonburi Democratic Party.


The wrecked automobile was a short distance, away, near a Shell gas station. It was a black Honda Civic, Kor -0851, Trang.The driver was identified as Mr. Thanispong Tepawat, age 27.He was apparently drunk and waiting with his girlfriend, a university student, to give the police their testimony.

Mr. Thanispong told police that earlier in the evening, he and his girlfriend had joined his friends to visit many well-known pubs in Pattaya, staying until the pubs closed. He was driving his car back home at a high speed, when a motorcycle rider coming out of soi Wat Pratum Kongka cut in front of him. He turned his steering wheel to avoid hitting the motorbike and lost control of his car.

Mr. Thanispong’s car first crashed into Mr.Banlue, who fell on the ground. The car careened wildly out of control and then hit Mrs. Tu. She was sitting on the marble table in front of the Democratic Party coordination center. She bounced off the car and was killed instantly.

The police took photos of the scene for evidence, and completed the daily record. They then had Mr.Thanispong take an alcohol breath test.Police will later question the couple again, to help determine the real cause of the crash, before proceeding to the next step of the prosecution.
