Yet Another Female Drug Dealer Arrested In Pattaya

A drug dealer from Nakornrachasima was caught at 03.00 am, on 24 February, 2009, just before she was about to distribute her wares to bar girls and local teenagers. She confessed to police that she had no choice but to act as a dealer as she was an unemployed, long-term addict.

The female dealer, Miss Jariya Promchoke [25], was arrested by Pol.Maj. Wittaya Yeunyong, Pattaya Police Investigator, Pol.Capt.Sarawut Boonchai , Deputy Investigator and their volunteer team, while she was trying to escape from the police patrol. She was arrested in front of the Alcazar Show Theatre, Pattaya Second Road, Banglamung. Police managed to stop her and searched her motor bike, a blue Yamaha Meo. Under the seat, police found 178 tablets of Yah Bah in a plastic bag hidden in a biscuit box, a bag of dry marijuana with a consumption kit and Bt 2,430 cash.

Police questioned Miss Jariya, who was under the influence of drugs. She said she had bought the drugs from a Mr. Sit and was on her way to deliver to local bar girls and teenagers in Pattaya. Miss Jariya said the reason that she had to become a dealer was because she had no job and had also been addicted to drugs too long to be able to quit them.

She was charged with possession of drugs with intent to sell and consume.

Editor’s Note:

More teenagers and women are trapped by the drug dealers in Pattaya, apparently, everyday, now. Yet, it is ironic that the more we hear about the daily arrests of drug dealers, the more we see them operating openly.

I, personally, overheard a teenager’s phone conversation in the 7/11 next door the other day when she was loudly discussing the quantity and the price of drugs, while the cashier and the salespeople in the shop just ignored her. No one seemed to be interested. When the kid left, I asked the 7/11 staff if they had heard that conversation, but they just smiled and looked at me as if I were stupid.

Nevertheless, it is apparent that the police presence around the Soi every night seems to be increasing of late. I commented to a motorbike taxi the other day that this was a good sign and the officers really seemed to be getting their act together. They seem to be taking the local drugs problem more seriously. He replied “Yes, they certainly seem to be keeping a closer eye on their business, especially since some of ‘their’ kids are trying to get smart and out of their control”. I understood what he was implying. I hope one day our kids will have a better chance to live their lives without the threat of drugs hanging over their heads, or of getting embroiled in the drugs trade, no matter who is controlling it.
