On 12 January, at 12:30pm, Pattaya Inspector, Police Lieutenant Colonel Prajob Senta, was notified that a motorbike had crashed into a car, causing the motorbike driver fatal injuries. The accident occurred in front of V.K. Center, which sells second hand items, near Pattaya Third Road, Moo 9, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi. A police team and Sawang Boriboon Rescue rushed to the scene.

There, officials discovered a black Honda Wave motorbike, model I 150 CC, license no. 151, Chonburi, had crashed and was lying on the road. The body of Mr. Vafhafaho Sulevi Johannfs (51), a Finnish national, was on his back near the motorbike. The deceased man was clad in a red shirt and cream colored pants. His arms were broken and his left leg was severely lacerated. His broken skull was soaked with blood.

According to witnesses and Mr. John Edward Falcone (58), the driver of the car that the victim collided with, a bronze Honda City, license 2409, Bangkok, Mr. Falcone was heading along Third Road from South Pattaya towards Pattaya Central Road, while Mr. Johannfs was riding his motorbike against traffic. Mr. Johannfs collided into the front of Mr. Falcone’s car and died immediately. Mr. Falcone’s car sustained a lot of damage, including serious damage to the front bumper and a smashed in left door. In addition, the front window was shattered, as the victim had smashed into it.

Officials assumed that Mr. Johannfs, the victim, was rushing across the road by taking a short cut in which he drove against traffic and ended up crashing into the Honda City car, causing him fatal injuries. Officials made a map of the accident scene. Mr. Johannfs’ body was sent to the hospital for examination. The Finnish embassy was contacted, as well. Mr. Falcone was charged with careless driving.

Motorbike riders often ride against traffic, when it is difficult to get across the road. This is extremely dangerous. Take note!
