International, the 16th of August 2010: Rossi, a sporting superstar in Italy and around the world, will next season race for the Italian outfit Ducati following the recent signing of a lucrative 2-year contract.

He told a gathering of Czech reporters in Brno, the scene of Sunday’s Grand Prix, “I’m happy, I’m very curious and very motivated. This new challenge, I think, will be very interesting – especially because I think that at Yamaha my work is finished.”

He referenced the change in Yamaha’s setup, success and progress since 2004 as the main reason behind his move. “We changed the situation from 2004 a lot. Yamaha have great riders so it looks like they don’t need me any more.” Current and clear championship leader Jorge Lorenzo from Spain is Rossi’s teammate at Yamaha.

A move to the Italian team was made possible shortly after the recent announcement that a current Ducati rider, Australia’s Casey Stoner, had signed a deal with Honda for next season.

Referring to the obvious Italian connection, Rossi states, “I think an Italian rider on an Italian bike is great for all the Italian fans and I think we will have a lot of cheering from all the Italian fans.”

Replacing Rossi at the Japanese manufacturer will be a formidable task given his four-championship titles with the outfit, however, speculation is that Yamaha are making a push to secure the signing of promising American rider Ben Spies. Spies currently races for the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 manufacturer alongside Colin Edwards.

Yamaha managing director Lin Jarvis added: “Unfortunately he’s made finally the choice to go and ride for Ducati next year so it was a sad day yesterday because although we’ve known about his decision for some weeks nevertheless when you make the final public announcement it becomes a fact.”
