Pol.Col.Nopadol Wongnom, Pattaya Superintendent, was notified on July 29, at 00.10 AM, by Mr.Thongchai Art-song, council member of Pattaya City, that he had detained two individuals who had forced open a car. The incident happened in front of Baan Thai Spa traditional massage parlour, located beside Krathing Thong Temple, Jomtien Beach Road.

Police investigators arrived at the scene and found Mr. Thongchai Art-song, and the BMW owner, Mr.Direk Jai-gwang, (46), prison officer # 5, Loey Prison, from Loey province, and other friends, had detained 2 suspects. They were Mr.Boonnam Suksawang (22), from Chonburi and Mr. Wirat Jitchai (32), from Kalasin province. Both of them were heavily intoxicated with Yah Bah (amphetamines).

Mr. Direk said that he and his family had driven by BMW 319 from Loey province to Pattaya for a holiday. He had gone to visit Mr.Thongchai, his close friend, and then went to Baan Thai Spa for a massage. Beforehand, he had securely locked his car which was parked in front of the shop. After the massage, he was alarmed to see his car open and saw Mr. Boonnam sitting in the driver’s seat, looking like he was intoxicated with Yah Bah. Mr. Wirat, the other suspect, who was his friend, was standing outside watching. Mr. Direk and his friends immediately detained the two suspects and notified police.

Mr. Boonnam stated that he had driven his father’s pickup truck to meet Mr. Wirat, his gay friend, on Jomtien Beach. Then both of them bought some Yah Bah to consume until they were both out of it. They had been strolling nonchalantly along the beach and saw the parked BMW. Acting on impulse, they had then used some tools to force open the car just to sit in it, but Mr. Boonnam maintained had had no intention of stealing the car.

Mr.Direk did not take the offence seriously because there was no damage to his property, but he had seen that both suspects were highly intoxicated and likely to cause trouble. He then requested the police to perform a urine test, which they duly did and the two suspects tested positive, but were too intoxicated to speak coherently. Both of them confessed to taking drugs and police charged them with “Consuming illegal drugs, category 1 (Yah Bah)”.
