Ya-Ba Dealer Shoots Police Inspector

A Ya-Ba dealer, noticing he was on the wrong end of a police sting operation took desperate measures while fleeing the scene. He shot a police inspector who was hot on his heels, dangerously wounding him.

Sriracha, 16th February 2011[Pattaya Daily News] During the night of last Wednesday, Lt Col Saweg Rattanakiet, Sriracha Police Investigator, was informed that a Lamchabang investigator had been shot in front of a deserted house at Moo7, Surasak, Sriracha, Chon Buri. The officer was taken to Phayuthai Hospital for treatment by his colleagues whilst the gunman was hiding nearby.

Subsequently, Maj. Gen. Thanet Phinngammuang, Chon Buri Police Commissioner, together with a senior police team went to the hospital and to the scene to investigate.

Lt. Gen. Thangai Pratsajagsattru, Commissioner of Police Region 2, ordered Chon Buri Police special unit in conjunction with the Chon Buri gendarme Police Investigators including Laemchabang and Nongkham officers to reinforce Sriracha police investigators in apprehending the suspect. The suspect is Mr. Watchara Tungkhaburana (20) a known Ya-ba dealer. Mr. Tungkhaburana had shot an investigator, Major Col. Atthaphorn Klanruengsaeng, a police inspector from Laem Chabang, during a sting operation involving the purchase of Ya-ba and arms. Reportedly, before the incident occurred, police Maj. Col. Klanruengsaeng and his team had arrested a local drug dealer, who involved Mr. Tungkhaburana as another suspect who sold drugs and arms. Accordingly the police team set up a sting operation to catch him in front of a deserted house.

At the appointed time, the suspect turned up but as Major Col. Klanruengsaeng tried to arrest him, he fled and gained an opportunity to use his gun to shoot Maj. Col. Klanruengsaeng in the abdomen and right thigh before escaping. Maj. Col. Klanruengsaeng  was sent instantly to the hospital where X-rays of the wounded policeman revealed a bullet left in the belly, requiring immediate surgery.

At the same time, the suspect used a gun to steal a red Honda Wave motorbike from a youth passing by and sped away towards Baan Naphraw, with the police taskforce in hot pursuit.

Lt. Gen. Pratsajagsattru had been to visit the wounded officer at the hospital. He remarked to reporters that Maj. Col. Klanruengsaeng’s life was not ein danger and that at the time he was undergoing surgery to remove the bullet.

The suspect has a long criminal record and is both armed and dangerous. Anyone who has information as to his whereabouts is requested to contact Sriracha Police Station.
