Wow! Gigantic Whale Shark Comes Close To Rayong Beach

Rayong province locals were surprised and came in large numbers to see a huge whale shark near Mae Rampeung beach, Rayong province. The marine mammal was collecting plankton and small fish.

Rayong, December 7, 2011[Pattaya Daily News]; Mr. Phuchong Saritdeechaikul, the director of Ocean and Beach Resource Conservation Center in Rayong province, reported that a whale shark was spotted in Mae Rampeung beach Tapong district in Rayong province.

The officers of the Eastern Maritime Research Center, Rayong found the shark one mile away from the beach at Mae Rampeung. The whale shark measured circa 7 meters, weighed more than 1,000 kg with a grey body, yellow-white dots and black dorsal and lateral fins.

The whale shark, “Rhincodon Typus” was collecting plankton and small fish not far away from the beach and the officer took pictures underwater shots of the large marine mammal.

Mr. Phuchong Saritdeechaikul said that he had seen the whale shark many times in Mabtapud beach, PMY beach, Mae Rampeung beach and Baan Pae beach in October-November every year. It’s habitat is the depths of Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. It follows plankton, shrimps and small fish

The Rayong beaches are still clean that’s why the whale shark comes here said, a fishermen who had spotted whale shark many times.

 

The officer informed the fishermen not harm the whale shark since they are not aggressive to humans. The officer also said to watch them so they will to get get stranded on the beach.

Mr. Prasert Sangkarak age 51, a small boat fisherman said, he has seen whale shark many times. First he was frightened and thought seeing the dark shadow that it was a sea monster.

But when it came closer he know that is was a whale shark so he took a picture of it with his mobile phone. He said, he had never saw such a big fish before.

He remembers always seeing the the whale shark around 800 meters from the beach meter chasing small fish and shrimp during the end of the year.

Mr. Prasert said, that at the beginning of winter there will be schools of small fish attracting the bigger fish to come closer to the beach in search for food.
