PATTAYA – Recently [PattayaDailyNews]; Dr.Thongchai Rojjanakana- specialist of architecture planner of Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning- said about the flood situation in Pattaya which becomes more and more severe. The heavy rain always caused the flood to Pattaya and nearby districts. As a result, it damaged to the properties of local people, plus the tourism industry has been also affected too.

However, Pattaya city has been never suffered the flood in the past, it nowadays suffers the flood when the heavy rain hit it because there are now a lot of constructions in the local area. As a result, there is no space to shoulder a lot of water which lead the water draining and flooding the city.

He added that Pattaya is low land and the water from the high land would always drain to the sea immediately. However, the water wouldn’t be able to drain through a lot of buildings; therefore, it caused flood in the local area. In addition, it would badly damage the property if the flood take a long time.

Recently, Pattaya itself has 2 draining ways which are Bang lamung canal and a Jomtien canal draining the water to the sea. Nevertheless, the canals are 10 kilometers away each other, they couldn’t drain the large amount of water during the heavy rain.

He added that Pattaya official would have to spend about 5,000 million baht to install the huge drainages between the canals in order to sustainably cope the flood. In addition, there is no another way out for coping Pattaya flood situation now.
