World’s Best Female Golfers Arrive At Dusit Thani Pattaya For Next Week’s Showdown

Lorena Ochoa, the number one ranked female golfer in the world arrived at Dusit Thani Pattaya Sunday morning in preparation for the world-class Honda LPGA Thailand 2009 slated from 26 February to 1 March at the Siam Country Club Pattaya Plantation. Ochoa is considered the best Mexican golfer of all time after she became the first ever Mexican golfer of either gender to be ranked number one in the world.

Other participating lady golfers seen trickling into the five-star resort were Ai Miyazato from Japan and 2007 Champion Suzann Pettersen from Norway. On hand to welcome them were Surang Prempee, Managing Director of Channel 7, Pitak Pruittisarikorn, Director of Honda Automobile (Thailand) Company Limited and Chanin Donavanik, CEO of Dusit International.

Sixty of the world’s best women golfers will be returning to Thailand to compete over the four-day world class golf, 72-hole stroke play with no cut in the field. At stake is a prize purse of US$ 1.45 million. This year’s schedule began in Hawaii before heading to Thailand. Next places to see some exciting golfing action are Singapore and Mexico. Organizers say the LPGA will not be returning to the US until the Phoenix event scheduled from 26-29 March, details of which are yet to be released.

Meanwhile, world number three Paula Creamer, nicknamed the “Pink Panther”, is on the list of top-ranked LPGA professionals arriving at Dusit Thani Pattaya tomorrow to compete in the much-awaited tournament that is sure to gather golf aficionados from across the country and abroad thereby helping boost tourism in Thailand.
