PHUKET – January 18, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; At approximately 8:30 p.m., a report of a woman shot to death in her car at a traffic intersection was received by Pol. Maj. Col. Sakol Krainara, officer of the shift, who forwarded the report to his commanders.

He then went to check the scene with Pol. Maj. Gen. Chote Chawalawiwat, the commander of Phuket province police; Pol. Col. Arun Klawwatee, vice commander; Pol. Col. Wanchai Palawan, the director of detective division; Pol. Col. Sirisak Wasasiri, the director of Wichit police station; and volunteers from the Phuket Ruamjaikoopai foundation.

The shooting occurred in the 3-way traffic-light junction on Kwhang road at the side of Jaofatawantok road, Phuket inbound.

At the scene, police found a crowd of Thais and foreigners gathered to watch the aftermath, which caused a traffic jam on the shoulder of the road. The victim was found in a white vehicle that had hit a street light pole. The driver’s side window had a bullet hole from the single gunshot that killed the victim.

She was identified as Ms. Jintana Mahanthanapakon, 43 years old, living in Yaowarach, Taladyai, Phuket. She was a human resource manager of the Hilton Phuket hotel, a Katia resort and spa in Karon, Phuket.

The victim was wearing a light blue shirt and white long trousers over her blood-soaked body. The bullet had entered her head from the right side and splattered brain fragments all over the vehicle’s interior. Rescuers took the body to Wachira Phuket hospital to have an autopsy performed.

After inspecting CCTV footage, detectives discovered that the car of the criminals was a new, white or bronze Toyota Vios, but they could not identify its license plate number.

The Toyota Vios had escaped on the Phuket inbound road. The police reported through the police radio to alert other patrol units to watch for and intercept the vehicle, but it disappeared without a trace.

After investigating further, police discovered that before the victim got shot, she was driving her vehicle from the Chalong district to go to Phuket. While stopped at the 3-way intersection, the victim was chatting on her cellphone. Then the car with the criminals pulled up alongside her.

When the yellow light went on, the victim was about to drive forward, but the criminals fired one shot, which entered the victim’s right window and fatally pierced her head.

The victim immediately fell unconscious as she died. Her foot stepped on the accelerator, causing her vehicle to accelerate through the intersection and hit a street pole. Meanwhile, the criminals sped away in their car toward Muang Phuket.

Police suspected the execution-style murder may have resulted from a personal conflict or affair, and they will continue to investigate to determine the real cause.
