PATTAYA – January 23, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]: A temporary boxing ring was set up at the Central center department store for the “Pattaya Nuamthong.” The 7th annual boxing competition features amateur Western style boxing.

The chairman for the opening ceremony was Mr. Ronnakij Akasing, the Deputy of the Pattaya Lord Mayor. Mr. Ronnakij gave a donation of educational funds to the children who came to perform Thai dancing for the opening ceremony.

The January 23-27 boxing tournament was held to honor the King for his 85th birthday. The program realizes the importance of sports in developing young people, and serves as a healthy outlet for problem children and teenagers in Pattaya as well as teenagers all over Thailand.

One goal of the tournament is to promote the amateur Western style of boxing, and find a boxer who can represent Thailand to compete in the international level. Competitors for the tournament had to be male students or teenagers from Thailand who were not over 19 years old.
