Pattaya, the 29th of May 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 9:30pm on Saturday, police Lieutenant Colonel Klitsakorn Thongin (Pattaya Police Deputy Superintendent) was notified that shots had been fired in Soi 7 off Thepprasit Road. A team of officers was immediately dispatched to the scene where police successfully apprehended 14 youths believed to have been involved in a gang related dispute.

The 14 youths were detained whilst they were attempting to escape the area in a white Toyota Camry, a black Toyota Family Van and another Bronze Toyota (unknown model). During investigations of the three vehicles police discovered two firearms, a .38 calibre revolver belonging to Mr. Chatchai Phosuwan [20] and a 9mm automatic pistol belonging to Mr. Chayaphat Rodpia [19].

Under interrogation, Mr. Phosuwan, owner of the .38 calibre pistol and the Toyota Camry, revealed that his gang of friends had proceeded to an unknown location in Soi 7 off Thepprasit Road in order to confront a rival gang about an incident that had happened several days prior. During the confrontation, which turned violent, Mr. Phosuwan stated that he fired two shots into the air with his revolver in an attempt to frighten the opposing gang and stop the fighting. Following the shots both parties fled the scene before Mr. Phosuwan’s gang was successfully apprehended by police.

Police Lt. Col. Thongin revealed to the press that all 14 youths were restrained and escorted to the Pattaya Police Station for further questioning whilst the 3 vehicles had temporarily been impounded for examination. After a brief interrogation the 14 gang members were released into the custody of their parents or guardians and sternly warned about their future actions. Allegedly many of the youths are children or relatives of various influential people in Pattaya City and the surrounding districts.
