We Include Email Addresses as a Matter of Course

I am somewhat concerned that my actual Email address is shown with my letter(s) to the editor. This practice invites unsolicited abuse, spam and other unwanted contact. Perhaps even changing the @ to (at) would be considerate of those who choose to correspond with PDN.

I enjoy your periodical and appreciate how difficult it is to write correctly in English consistently. The PDN is truly a joy to peruse.

I was surprised to read about the limitations on your news organization’s rights concerning reporting on legal matters. This limited access is troubling to me and too many others.

Are these limitations true only in the criminal courts? What is the rational for this situation? Who does this protect? The corrupt? The guilty? Please do not say the defendents. Transparency in these matters would be a prerequisite for the administration of balanced justice, anything less opens the gate for judicial and/or police abuse and the too real possibility of justice denied.

Concern for ones fate, if somehow emmeshed in the Thai “legal system” or having to interact with corrupt, greedy police is sufficient to keep me away from Thailand for now. I caution those who are planning to visit Thailand of this tragic reality. I wish that the King would/could inspire honesty and transparency throughout the justice system to make Thailand better for all people, tourist Farangs, ex-pats and the wonderful, gracious citizens of Thailand.

(Except for all those who persist in their corruptive behavior and are incarcerated!)

I was in Pattaya in November ’06 for my 60th Birthday and I have been there many times through the years. I have been visiting Thailand since 1974 and now I live in Vietnam mostly and in N California. I love Thailand and the Thai people and I wish them all every success.
