Ms Sukanya Jantanarak, 40, of Phuket’s Mueang district was a known gambler, police say.Her scheme involved renting cars from rental tents in popular tourism areas of Phuket – at rates between B20,000 to B70,000 baht per month.Only she never returned the vehicles at the end of the contract, but instead allegedly sold the cars upcountry, and in particular border provinces in the Deep South.

In some instances, she allegedly even attempted to extort money from car owners in exchange for the promised return of a vehicle.

Sukanya, allegedly in hand with Suphaluck Krootmanee, first made headlines in March 2012, at which time they were estimated to have stolen 30 cars and sold them on. Some of the cars were recovered from a man in Nakhon Sri Thammarat who said the women had sold the cars to him for low prices.
