International, the 18th of August 2010: The fight, preliminarily announced in July, has now been confirmed and will take place in Hamburg, Germany. The Ukrainian’s management team revealed the bout in an announcement made this week.

Vitali’s last fight in May, against Poland’s Albert Sosnowski, ended in a 10th round knockdown for the Ukrainian, whose younger brother Vladimir is the current IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion.

Referring to Shannon Briggs as a renowned tough talker, Vitali stated, “Shannon Briggs is an unbelievable big mouth but also definitely a tough challenger. He is one of the toughest punchers in the business.”

38-year-old Briggs, known as “The Cannon” has a 54-5-1 record and is currently ranked eighth in the WBC rankings. Vitali on the other hand has a 42-2-0 record with 38 knockouts to his name.

Despite Vitali being installed as the clear favourite to take the bout, Briggs slated his opponent stating, “He can look at his world title belt for another few weeks because after October 16 it will be mine.”

Meanwhile, Vladimir Klitschko is still adamant that he is destined to fight Brit David Haye in a title reunification bout, but insists that the tough talking WBA titleholder is “afraid” to fight him or his brother. Vladimir will next fight Nigerian Samuel Peter in Germany on September 11.
