Virus Watch: Thailand Confirms 154 New A(H1n1) Cases

BANGKOK, July 3 Thailand's Ministry of Public Health reported 154 new Influenza A (H1N1) cases on Friday, according to Deputy Public Health Minister Manit Nopamornbodhi.

Specialists were to meet Friday to review preventive measures following five fatalities being recorded in Thailand, the minister said.

The new infections reported Friday raised the country’s total number of persons diagnosed with N1N1 (formerly known as swine flu) to 1,760.

Twenty of the new flu patients remain in hospital. Of this number, one patient in Chonburi was being closely monitored as the patient’s condition is worrying.

The public health miistry was due to convene a meeting of specialists from state hospitals Friday afternoon to review treatment of new flu patients and assess at-risk groups.

Representatives from a cleaning company will also attend the meeting to share information after a cleaner died from the new virus. Janitorial workers are now categorized in a risk group. (TNA)
