Villagers Protest About Burapha Withi Expressway-Pattaya Project

Over 500 villagers had protested about the new expressway project at the Nong Mai Dang district office. The villagers had concerns about the project because it was effecting local businesses.

CHONBURI – July 6, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News];-at Nong Mai Dang district office’s conference room Mr.Amornsak Promlawan-chief of Chonburi highway district- and Ms.Thuangthip Pawasutchaikit-mayor of Nong Mai Dang district- had made a statement to clarify about the construction of the Burapha Withi-Pattaya expressway, after 500 villagers had protested about the project.


Mayor of Nong Mai Dang district revealed that the officers had held the conference in order to clarify the information about the project. In addition Chonburi officers and EXAT (Expressway Authority of Thailand) will hold another conference to discuss with the protesters on the 8th July at The City Sri Racha hotel.


The Burapha Withi expressway is being constructed from Bangkok to Klongtamloo district, Chonburi. As a result of the construction the traffic congestion on the Sukhumwit road had increased and it is hoped that the new road which will connect Burapha Withi to Pattaya at a length of 68km will improve travel times.


However the project is effecting to a lot of people and they had continuously protested the project. Therefore Mr.Khomsan Aekachai-Chonburi governor-had negotiated with EXAT to consider the protesters concerns.
