The officer caught on video appeared to be an officer of a well-known beverage company that was sponsoring the festival, and that they had exclusive rights to sell beverages on the road.

PATTAYA – March 23, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; On Beach Road, two men were caught on the video, wearing the badges of the drinks sponsor. One of the officers threatened the vendor of a competitors drinks company to stop selling their drink, or face being prosecuted according to the Thai law. He was heard on the video to say that “I paid 100 million THB to close this road”, and that he would come back later to ensure the man had closed his stall.

However, after this video clip was viewed, many people have come out in sympathy with the vendor, due to the belligerent and bullying attitude of the officer. This appears to be the only mar on the festival. 1000’s of Thais and foreigners came to the concert on the Beach Road and had a great time, listening to music, socialising, and enjoying the various food, drink and other stalls along the way.
