USA For Innovation Accuses Thailand Of Theft Of American Assets

In order to justify certain allegations referring to the theft of American innovation by the new military-backed Thai government, US website - USA For Innovation - , issued a report on April 25th outlining counter arguments to refute statements made by Thai governmental officials.

The 8 key statements, referred to as “lies” by USA For Innovation are:

1. Thailand is too poor to afford Western medicines
2. Thailand is doing everything it can to address its AIDS problem
3. Thailand is just trying to lower the cost of Western medicines
4. Thailand’s Government Pharmaceutical Organization issues drugs that are safe and effective
5. Thailand’s public health system is lowering costs for medicines
6. Thailand is in the middle of an AIDS crisis.
7. The drug companies started this fight
8. Thailand’s recent use of compulsory licenses is legal.


Apart from accusing Thailand of stealing US medical innovations, USA for Innovation has other really scathing allegations concerning the new military-backed Thai government, so much so that its supporters have sent 35,000 letters to President Bush and U.S. Policymakers, recommending that the United States “take retaliatory action in the form of trade or economic sanctions or the removal of military aid.”
