U-Tapao Airport PattayaThe Ministry of Tourism has decided to change U-Tapao Airport to U-Tapao Pattaya Airport to encourage more tourism.
July 15,2015 [PattayaDailyNews]; Mrs Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, president of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, said that due to the fact that Pattaya is a famous tourist destination, we have decided to change the name of U-Tapao Airport to U-Tapao Pattaya Airport to encourage more international tourists to visit Pattaya.
Radm.Vasinsan Chantavarin, commander of the Naval Air Division Royal Thai Fleet, said that the airport will be able to support 2 million passengers and 10,000 aircrafts landings after the official opening of the airport in 2016. Most of the passengers will be Chinese and Singaporean tourists.
Moreover, Radm. Chantavarin added that U-Tapao Airport will collaborate with Rayong Chanthaburi Trat and Chonburi to connect tourism to the eastern part of Thailand and other neighbouring countries, especially countries that do not border the sea such as Lao.
Mr. Sanpetch Suphabavornsatian, president of the Thai Hotels Association said changing the name of U-Tapao Airport is a good thing because it is easier for Chinese tourists that usually travel by charter flights. He agreed with adding Pattaya behind the name U-Tapao, to make it easier to remember and less confusing.
