Two Thai Women Accused Of Dutch Man‘S Murder

In the ongoing investigation of the brutal slaying and burning of Mr. Martinus Johannes Grardus Antonius Jochems, (63), a Dutch citizen, who, on July 7, 2008, was found dead from a vicious stab wound to the neck and then burnt, Pattaya police have now implicated two Thai women as being the perpetrators of the crime.

In the latest report, on July 9, at 3pm, Pol.Col.Sarayut Sa-gnuen-bpo-kai, Banglamung Superintendent, apparently recalled Miss Ratana Inthirat (29), a staff member of Kansas City restaurant, located in Soi Nongket Yai, Nong-pla-lai, Banglamung, for further questioning. She had earlier been questioned as a close friend of Mr. Jochems, but, initially, police found nothing suspicious in her testimony and had released her, accordingly. However, new evidence and witness’ statements threw doubt upon her veracity, so police recalled Miss Ratana for a more thorough investigation. In an investigation lasting about 2 hours, Miss Ratana apparently finally confessed in tears that she and her friend, Miss Janjira Korbkaew, (23), from Chantaburi, had jointly killed Mr. Jochems.

Apparently, in the middle of the night of July 3, Miss Ratana had taken Miss Janjira by motorbike to go and sleep with Mr. Jochems. Later the next morning, Miss Ratana returned to the house to pick up Miss Janjira and take her back home, but Mr. Jochems was apparently unwilling to let Miss Jajira go and had taken Miss Janjira’s mobile phone and her motorbike key to prevent she and her friend from going home. Miss Ratana tried to affect a compromise, but failed. Then, Mr.Jochems allegedly started to attack both she and Miss Janjira. Miss Ratana then went out to report the matter at the police box at Nong-pla-lai, but police were apparently unwilling to help as they said it was a family matter and the two women would have to deal with the problem themselves.

Failing to enlist the aid of the police, Miss Jajira became angry that she could not get her mobile phone back, and then grabbed an iron bar, which was in the house and began to hit Mr. Jochems repeatedly, while he was washing his face in the bathroom. Both she and Mr. Jochems then began fighting, which led to Miss Ratana trying to help by grabbing a mop and hitting Mr.Jochems until he collapsed. After that Miss Janjira took a conveniently placed knife and stabbed Mr. Jochems in the neck, killing him in front of her friend. At this stage, they both became afraid of the consequences of their actions and decided to buy some petrol to pour over Mr. Jochems’s body and the floor, lighting a fire to disguise the murder. Before making their escape, Miss Janjira took a diamond ring and a gold, diamond-studded watch worth Bt1 million.

After that, they shared the stolen items between them, Miss Janjira taking the diamond ring and Miss Ratana the watch, which she buried at the foot of a coconut tree at her residence. She apparently thought that nobody would find out about their crime and just went to work as normal. Miss Janjira, however, fled to stay with a friend at Gang-hang-maew sub-district.

Pol.Col.Sarayut Sa-gnuen-bpo-kai, Banglamung Superintendent, said that, after police had investigated Miss Ratana, a police team was immediately sent to search for Miss Janjira at Gang-hang-maew sub-district, but Miss Janjira had already fled after having being alerted a short while earlier

Questioning a friend of Miss Janjira, police were informed that Miss Janjira had implied that Miss Ratana was the one who had actually killed Mr.Jochems and she herself was not involved, only being present at the incident. That was the reason why she had run away to stay with her friend. Apparently, both Miss Ratana and Miss Janjira’s stories were different. Initially, Miss Ratana was charged with joint intent to kill another, intentionally. Police are currently applying for an arrest warrant for Miss Janjira, who they hope to apprehend as soon as possible.
