Two Talented Artists Exhibit Different Art Forms

The “Opium Art Gallery” on Thepprasit Road was the ideal venue for some totally different art works by two talented young artists, who formally learnt their artistic skills in their home towns, by using watercolors as their main medium.

The younger of the two artists is Wittaya (“Taem”), who is from Buriram, and has been painting since he was fifteen years of age. Last year changed to the very unusual medium of painting on old weathered corrugated iron roofing material, with some very pleasing effects, and this has led him to use a combination of several art mediums, which are totally different to anything that we have previously seen.

His companion artist, 32 year old Panuwat (‘Neung’) from Samut-Prakan has been painting since his primary school days, and also changed from watercolors last year to produce some startling looking art forms on brass and copper sheeting, not by heat, but also by chemical reactions on the metal. He creates permanent colours on the metal sheeting by the use of the strangest of solutions, such as vinegar, tomato sauce and a variety of other commonly available liquids. After these processes, he often uses conventional paints to further improve the image, if he feels that it is necessary.

These two talented artists drew a good crowd of both foreign and Thai patrons on the opening night of their Pattaya exhibition, which will run throughout March. They have formed a partnership, and jointly opened an art gallery in Bangkok, which for them has been hugely successful.
