Two More Russians Arrested In New Forged Credit Card Scam

Pattaya, October 15, 2009. [PDN] – only a short time after a similar incident in Pattaya by Russian credit card fraudsters, yet another two Russian tourists have been nabbed trying to perpetrate the same trick. The two alleged fraudsters were arrested last night, October 14, 2009, after they successfully used forged credit cards to draw cash from a Siam Commercial Bank roadside booth.

The two young Russian tourists, named as Oleg Yanchogl, 29, and Vitaly Pavlov, 23, were apprehended after SCB bank teller notified police that the alleged credit card ’bandits’ had used what, after checking proved to be, 4 forged credit cards to draw money from the SCB booth at 9:50 pm, yesterday evening.

Following the report of the alleged fraud attempt, the Pattaya Constabulary gave chase and tracked them down in a Thap Phaya Road restaurant car park. They were found to be in possession of a vast amount of cash, Bt700,000, as well as 21 forged credit cards of four Thai banks: Krung Thai Bank, Siam Commercial Bank, Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn Bank.

Police arrested the pair and they will be duly prosecuted for credit card fraud. This is the second such incident in a matter of weeks, but with the current state of the Russian economy reportedly being in an appalling state, the city can expect further incidents from their compatriots, especially in the upcoming high season.
