Two Friends, One Dead, One Held by Police Daddy

The person who had held the 11 mm gun had shot the body once in the head and once in the chest. Leaves many questions unanswered until further examination by forensic experts. Same person, same caliber, same gun? Forensics will determine it's findings.

Pattaya, 25 January 2011 [Pattaya Daily News]: At 15.30 p.m. Police Lieutenant Wirat Testhong, investigation official Police Station Pattaya, was notified about the killing of a ‘bad guy’ by a police officer, under a canal bridge, at Liaptaang rot-fai Rd. Moo 6 Nongbrue Banglamung Chonburi. After the notification, police Lieutenant Somnuek Janthongeth, a police investigation team and a rescue foundation team hurried to the scene.

At the scene, under the bridge, lay the body of Mr. Srawut Rathnaphari, or Joke, age 34 (residence: 148/56 Moo 13 Nongbrue Banglamung, Chonburi ). The body was lying on its chest, wearing a black, long sleeved T-shirt and Jeans. The person who had held the 11 mm gun had shot the body once in the head and once in the chest. Another 9 mm gun was found, fully loaded with another 4 bullet cases, on the ground near the body. The police have secured these items as evidence.

Police Lieutenant Narong Phrajim, Police Station Banglamung, who was present at the scene, said that before the incident, he and Police Lieutenant Rathdee Wongswech, along with a troop of police officials and volunteers, were sent to check for traffic speeding at the area of the 3-way junction at Soi Bunat, which is about 500 m from the location of the incident.

Mr. Srawut, the dead person, had been speeding on his grey Honda wave S, license no. ขลษ 831 Chonburi, with a passenger sitting on the back, Mr. Jirayu Luangsagda, 25, (residing at 114/14 Moo 4 Takiendiew Banglamung ). The police had asked them to stop to check for their identification and give them a speeding ticket. Mr. Srawut however, turned and sped away to escape the police, which then resulted in an accident as the motorbike fell over.

The police therefore were able to catch Mr. Jirayu and also found the following items : 1 shotgun, a 38 mm gun, and 5 size no.12 bullets. Mr. Srawut had taken the opportunity to run, and hide under the bridge across the canal. He then started shooting at the police. It was fortunate that none of the officials got shot, but they however had to use their guns as well in self defense, resulting in the death of Mr. Srawut.

Mr. Jirayu under tears confessed that, he is the son of a police official, of the Pattaya Station. Before the incident he had been smoking marijuana at his friends house. Mr. Srawut was going to take him back home on his motorbike and asked him to carry the guns for him. On the way Mr. Srawut said that he was afraid of getting caught by police so he avoided big roads and went through the small soi Banat, which was being checked by the police. When Mr. Srawut saw the police he sped up, resulting in the incident of the motorbike falling over, and Mr. Srawut getting shot by the police.

After questioning the police are taking procedures with Mr. Jirayu according to the law. The body of Mr. Srawut was sent to the lab of the forensic institute for examination, to be kept as evidence and to further begin proceedings in the case and close it according to the law.
