At the scene of the incident, Miss Tonya Solodrnik (22), a Russian national, was waiting for the police. The distraught victim said that she had been strolling along the beach after enjoying some of the entertainment offerings on Walking Street. She sat down and put her white, shoulder bag, which contained cash, a wallet and a digital camera, on a nearby table. All of a sudden, two men snatched her bag and ran. Miss Solodrnik shouted for help and a bystander chased after the two desperados whom he caught up with around Pattaya Second Road, about one hundred meters from the crime scene. Police, along with Miss Solodrnik, rushed to where the perpetrators were caught.

The Good Samaritan, who managed to detain the thieves, was Mr. Banjong Bpo-thong (29), from Suphanburi Province. The two suspects were Mr. Theeraphong Janpetch (20), from Surin Province and Mr. Panya Pladpring (22), from Bangkok. Police retrieved evidence consisting of a white shoulder bag, containing 1,850 rupees, twenty Euros, one hundred Thai baht and a Sony digital camera. Miss Solodrnik, who was delighted to get her belongings back, thanked Mr. Banjong for helping to detain the alleged thieves. She was able to positively identify the suspected perpetrators.

Mr. Theeraphong and Mr. Panya said that they both worked as boxer show boys at Best Friends Beer Bar on Pattaya Beach. Often, after work, they would look for extra income by selling sexual services to foreigners along the beach. They noticed Miss Solodrnik sitting alone, on the beach, with her bag on the table. On impulse, they snatched the bag and ran. Mr. Theeraphong grabbed the bag and handed it to Mr. Panya. Then, they ran away. However, their criminal intent was foiled by Mr. Banjong, who caught and detained them.

Mr. Theeraphong claimed that he needed money to go home and take care of his mum. However, police didn’t believe his story. A search of his criminal record revealed that Mr. Theeeraphong had been arrested for attempted murder. He was released from prison two years ago. Mr. Panya was, previously, charged with using drugs. Police charged both men with snatching and running and will prosecute the two men to the fullest extent of the law
