International, the 24th of November 2009 [Pattaya Daily News]: The highly enthralling vampire romance movie, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” scored the third biggest opening weekend of all time at the North American box office, as millions converged on cinemas across the continent. The sequel earned an estimated $140,700,000 during its first 3 days of release, totally eclipsing prior expectations by the entertainment industry.

The record for an opening weekend is set at $158 million, set last year by the Batman sequel “The Dark Knight.” Second place goes to the 2007 movie “Spider-Man 3″ with $151 million. “New Moon” easily replaced “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” ($136 million) at No. 3.

?The Twilight Saga: New Moon” revisits the unusual and dangerous romance between high school student Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). After falling in love with each other in original feature movie Bella and Edward break up in “New Moon.” Bella ends up dating Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), an American Indian who also turns out to be a werewolf. Jacob does all he can to protect and take care of Bella, but she still longs for the gentle blood-sucker Edward.

The “Twilight” film franchise is based on a series of four novels of the same name by Stephenie Meyer, which her publisher quotes as having sold over 85 million copies worldwide. A third film, “Eclipse,” is due in June.
