Over time, your bedroom, your sanctuary becomes neglected, a place to dump things, a place to work. To return the passion into your lives, you have to de-clutter the bedroom. Get rid of the excess distractions such as computers, exercise equipment, work brought back from the office etc, even if possible, the television.

To turn your bedroom into a love shack, a room of passion, you must think beyond satin sheets and incense and get creative. Your bedroom should be a private oasis of peace and tranquility. Start by fantasizing; think of your sense of smell, touch and taste of what turns you on. Things that suggest sex are usually more erotic than that which screams it out loud.

Choose colours such as soft reds, burgundy and pinks to your room. Studies over the years have shown that the soft hues of these colours help a person to break free of restraints and fires up passion in them. Adjust the lighting to something soft. Candles can be scented and are loved by women, but there are less flammable ways of altering the lighting to control the mood. Try a dimmer switch on beside lamps or place lamps behind furniture or screens in order to give off a soft seductive glow.

What makes climbing into bed in a hotel so sexy? It is the soft crisp cotton sheets with a high thread count of around 250 or more. A love nest creates an ambience of passion and suspense, but music is an essential part of that effect. Experiment with it. Music that is too repetitive and soft combine with the dim lighting could have a reverse effect and send you to the land of nod instead of stimulating the senses.

Mirrors can go a long way toward creating an atmosphere, but not necessarily on the ceiling. Strategically place cluster of candles in front of mirrors can enhance the mood, by reflecting the light. Twinkly lights hung around and perhaps draped from plants can also have an effect on the required glow.

A few vases of flowers here and there with a good scent can be of benefit and light billowing curtains or nightwear. Something not to skimpy but light and flowing, just enough to show what is on offer.

Things such as photographs of your parent or ex partners need to be put away or moved elsewhere. Reminders of utility bills lying around will not help along with pets, laundry, odd socks and inhibitions. All these kind of things need to be put out of sight, or preferably just don’t leave them in the bedroom in the first place.
